Banned Book Club: High School Edition
Teens Thinking About Books
Service Description
US Grades 9 - 12 In this book club for teens, we will read and discuss books that have made it onto banned book lists. Class Experience: To begin our exploration of each literary work, the instructor will provide a brief summary of the novel, share insights into the author's life, and discuss relevant historical influences that shaped the author's narrative. Participants will be actively encouraged to express their thoughts and viewpoints on the book's themes, covering aspects such as isolation, friendship, leadership, identity, and mortality. Engaging in discussions will facilitate a deeper understanding of the text's meaning and significance. This course will actively engage learners in honing their critical thinking skills through thematic exploration. Participants will be prompted to reflect on the reasons why these books usually are challenged. Is it with the best intentions? Or does it hinder ideas and information?
